Pero eso no es todo lo que Sophie descubre, ella es un elfo genéticamente modificado por una organización llamada Black Swan. Pronto Sophie estará en medio de un conflicto en el Mundo Elfico (Ciudades Perdidas), un conflicto con tres bandos. Black Swan, una organización incomprendida que quiere reconocer los defectos en las Ciudades Perdidas. I finally get to write this review! Lodestar is the fifth installment in the Keeper of the Lost Cities Series, a middle grade book series about elves and high fantasy.

Sophie Foster

The protagonist of the series is Sophie Foster, a girl who lived a human pseudo normal life in San Diego, the only difference between was that she was in high school despite being 12 and she could read people’s minds. One day a mysterious boy appears and tells her that she is an elf, and that’s the reason behind her intelligence and ability. But that’s not everything Sophie discovers, she is a genetically modified elf created by an organization named Black Swan. Soon Sophie will be in the middle of a conflict in the Elvin World (Lost Cities), a conflict with three sides. The Black Swan, a misunderstood organization that wants to acknowledge the flaws in the Elvin World. The Neverseen, a rebel group that opposes the rule of the Council, and wreaks havoc on the Lost Cities to make their presence known to everyone. And the Council, the rulers of the perfect Lost Cities. The Black Swan and Council share the same mission of defeating the Neverseen, but the council is against the Black Swan because they use methods they don’t approve.

¡Hola! Ya tiene rato que no subo una reseña, pero he estado trabajando duro para tener dinero para comic con este fin de semana. La saga de Sophie Foster (Keeper of the Lost Cities) aún continúa, en otoño de este año saldrá el sexto libro, por lo cual he aplazado lo más posible el leer este libro para no alcanzar a los libros y tener que esperar. Tuve un bloqueo lector y el único libro que me apetecía leer era este, así que les traigo la reseña.

Hello! It’s been a while since my last review, but I’ve been working hard to save money for comic con this weekend. Keeper of the lost cities is an ongoing series, the sixth book is set to be released this fall, and that’s the reason why I’ve tried to avoid reading this book, I don’t want to catch up with the series and then have to wait too long. In the end I had a reading block and this book was the only one I truly wanted to read.

As this is the fourth installment, I can’t write a synopsis without spoiling previous books, so I’ll just place the one in goodreads.

¡Hola! Finalmente escribo la reseña de la tercera entrega de la historia de Sophie Foster, ahora es muy difícil escribir una sinopsis propia sin decir spoilers, así que sólo les pondré la que viene en Goodreads:

            Sophie Foster está lista para luchar. Sus talentos se vuelven más fuertes y con el elusivo grupo

Cisne Negro ignorando su llamado, está determinada a encontrar a sus secuestradores antes de que vengan por ella de nuevo, pero un atrevido error deja a su mundo al borde de la guerra y causa que muchos teman que finalmente ha llegado demasiado lejos. Entre más busca, más se extiende la conspiración, probando que su enemigo más peligroso puede estar más cerca de lo que ella cree.

            Me encantó esta entrega, tiene acción sin parar desde el inicio, así que todo el libro tiene un paso rápido y entretenido lleno de acción, momentos tristes y divertidos y una trama que desenvuelve algunos misterios pero también crea más preguntas.

 Hello! I’m finally reviewing the third installment of Keeper of the Lost Cities, now it’s pretty hard to write my own synopsis without spoiling everything, so I’ll just copy the one in Goodreads:

¡Hola! Se nota que soy muy lenta para escribir reseñas, ¡Este libro lo leí en noviembre!

            Exile, o Exilio como sería su título en español, es el segundo libro en la saga Keeper of the Lost Cities, o Sophie Foster como le pusieron en español aunque este libro no está traducido. Tras los eventos ocurridos en el primer libro, Sophie trata de tener una vida normal, aunque es difícil ya que

Sophie y Silveny.

tiene un guardaespaldas goblin de dos metros que la sigue a todos lados. Usando sus especiales habilidades telepáticas, Sophie encuentra a la primer alicornio que se ha visto en las Ciudades Perdidas y ella es la única persona a la que la alicornio, Silveny, acepta y puede comunicarse con ella por su conexión mental, por ello Sophie debe entrenarla y prepararla para que ingrese al santuario y conozca al alicornio macho que reside ahí. Silveny está en peligro, ya que un misterioso grupo quiere secuestrarla y Sophie está segura de que es el mismo grupo que la secuestró a ella y a Dex. Cuando Sophie descubre nuevos mensajes y pistas del misterioso grupo Cisne Negro, se ve forzada a tomar un terrible riesgo, uno que los pone a todos en inminente peligro. Mientras más secretos enterrados emergen a la superficie, de nuevo Sophie tiene que descubrir memorias ocultas antes de que alguien cercano a ella se pierda para siempre.

            De los tres libros que he leído, este ha sido el que menos me ha gustado, el principio es un poco lento y la parte interesante comienza más o menos a la mitad del libro. Tal vez el inicio me pareció un poco aburrido porque no me interesan mucho los unicornios o criaturas similares, así que todo lo que envolvía a Silveny no me pareció muy interesante, aunque sí tuvo momentos bastante divertidos y entretenidos.

Hello! I’m really slow to write reviews, I finished this book in November!

            Exile is the second installment of Keeper of the Lost Cities series, after the events occurred in

Sophie and Silveny.

the first book, Sophie is trying to live a normal life even thou she has a goblin bodyguard of two meters following her everywhere to protect her. Using her unique telepathic abilities Sophie finds the first female alicorn ever seen in the Lost Cities, and as she is the only one the alicorn, Silveny, accepts due to their mental connection, Sophie has to train Silveny for her to enter the Sactuary with the male alicorn. Silveny is in danger, and so is Sophie, someone is trying to kidnap the alicorn and Sophie thinks is the same group who kidnaped her and Dex. When Sophie discovers new messages and clues from the mysterious Black Swan group, she’s forced to take a terrifying risk—one that puts everyone in incredible danger. As long buried secrets rise to the surface, it’s once again up to Sophie to uncover hidden memories—before someone close to her is lost forever.

            Out of the 3 books I’ve read of this series, this has been my least favorite, the beginning is kind of slow and the interesting part starts around half of the book. Maybe I thought so because I’m not interested in unicorns or similar creatures, so the parts involving Silveny were kind of boring to me.

¡Hola a todos! Leí este libro el año pasado, bueno, leí los tres primeros de la saga el año pasado, pero

no había tenido tiempo de reseñarlos hasta ahora. Keeper of the Lost Cities, o en español, la saga de Sophie Foster, es una saga catalogada como infantil o juvenil de fantasía, supe de ella el año pasado durante Comic Con, Shannon Messenger estaba firmando libros, pero no había nadie en fila, así que me le acerqué y le pregunté cuál era el primer libro de sus sagas, como no estaba el primero de Sky Fall, compré este, incluso lo firmó antes de que fuera a pagarlo, me dijo que no huyera con él xD Este libro estuvo un buen rato en mi librero, no pensaba leerlo en realidad, pero cuando supe que saldría el quinto libro y que la autora estaría en tour cerca de mi ciudad, decidí darle la oportunidad… y lo amé.

            La Guardiana de las Ciudades Perdidas nos cuenta la historia de una niña de 12 años llamada Sophie Foster, ella hace su mejor intento por vivir una vida normal, pero eso es casi imposible ya que es súper inteligente, tanto que está en la preparatoria (bachillerato o como lo conozcan ustedes) pese a tener 12 años, tiene memoria fotográfica y lo peor de todo… puede leer la mente de las personas desde los cinco años. Un día, durante un paseo a un museo, conoce a un atractivo y misterioso chico que se le acerca y ella descubre que él también puede leer mentes. Este joven, Fitz, ayuda a Sophie a descubrir la verdad sobre sí misma, a saber él por qué es diferente… Sophie es un elfo. El padre de Fitz la ha estado buscando para que regrese a donde pertenece. Sophie deberá adaptarse a su nueva vida en el mundo elfo mientas unos misteriosos incendios aparecen en San Diego, nadie sabe quién los inició y apagarlos es todo un reto, sólo se sabe que están relacionados a una misteriosa organización llamada Cisne Negro, la cual está perturbando la paz del mundo elfo y además tiene una interesante relación con el origen de Sophie.

Hello everyone, I read this book last year, actually, I read the first 3 books of this series last year but

haven’t had time of reviewing them till now. Keeper of the Lost Cities is a middle grade, fantasy series, I found out about it last year during Comic Con, Shannon Messenger was signing books, but there was none in line, so I approached her and asked her which one was the first book, there was Keeper of the Lost Cities and the Sky Fall trilogy, they hadn’t the first book of the trilogy, so I bought this one. Messenger signed it before I paid for it and told me not to run away with it xD This book rested in my bookshelf for a while, I had no actual intention of reading it, but when I found out the fifth installment was going to be released and she would be in tour near my home, I decided to read it to know what the story was about… and I loved it.

             

            Keeper of the Lost Cities tells us the story of a 12 year old girl named Sophie Foster, she tries as hard as she can to live a normal life, but that is nearly impossible because she is super intelligent, she is in high school despite being 12, she has photographic memory and also, she can read people’s minds since she’s five. One day, during a field trip to a museum, a handsome and mysterious boy approaches her and she discovers he can read minds too. This boy, Fitz, helps her to discover the truth: Sophie is an elf, just like him. Fitz’s father has been looking for her to return to the Elvin world, where she belongs. At the same time, there are mysterious fires around San Diego, none knows who start them or why, but it is related to a secret organization named Black Swan, an organization that’s supposedly altering the peace of the Elvin world and that knows the origins and everything about Sophie.

Hola, el pasado jueves 17 de noviembre de 2016 tuve la oportunidad de asistir a la firma de autógrafos de Shannon Messenger en la librería Mysterious Galaxy en San Diego. En esa librería hay firmas de autógrafos bastante seguido, se han presentado autores como Marie Lu, Nicola Yoon, Amie Kaufman, Jay Kristoff, entre muchos otros.

            Shannon Messenger es la autora de la saga Sophie Foster, la Guardiana de las Ciudades Perdidas (Keeper of the Lost Cities), tristemente en español sólo está disponible el primer libro. La razón de su visita a San Diego es el tour que está realizando para conmemorar la publicación del quinto libro de la saga, Lodestar. El evento se suponía empezaría a las 6:00 de la tarde, pero comenzó un poco más tarde. Messenger se veía cansada y con justa razón, se levantó a las 5:00 am para viajar de Arizona a San Diego.

            La primera parte del evento fue una plática sobre el nuevo libro, la autora agradeció al público por su presencia, cuando llegué sólo habíamos 8 personas, pero cuando se acercó más la hora se llenó el lugar. También agradeció a los fans debido a que Keeper of the Lost Cities llegó a la lista de sagas mejor vendidas del New York Times.

            Después de la plática, el evento tomó un formato de preguntas y respuestas (Q&A), el público estuvo muy participativo, principalmente los niños, lo cual se me hizo muy interesante, en serio no saben lo felices y emocionados que se veían aunque me hicieron sentir vieja, pero qué podía esperar si es una saga catalogada como literatura infantil. Durante la sesión de preguntas y respuestas Messenger dijo varias cosas interesantes sobre la saga, sobre cómo se volvió una escritora, cómo es el ser una escritora y dio algunos consejos a aquellos que desean volverse escritores.

Hello, on Thursday November 17, 2016 I had the chance to attend the signing of Shannon Messenger

Fifth installment of KOTLC

at the bookstore Mysterious Galaxy in San Diego.

            Shannon Messenger is the author of the Keeper of the Lost Cities series, and the Sky Fall trilogy. The reason of her visit to San Diego was the tour she is doing for the release of the fifth installment of Keeper of the Lost Cities, Lodestar. The event was supposed to start at 6:00 pm, but it started a few minutes late. Messenger looked tired, and with a good reason, she flew from Arizona straight to San Diego.

            The first part of the event was a talk about the new book, the author thanked the public for being there and talked about how successful the series has become thanks to the fans, now Keeper of the Lost Cities is in the list of bestselling series of the New York Times.

            After the talk the event took the format of a Q&A session, the public was really participative, and most of the participants were kids (I felt so old), during the session Messenger said interesting things about the series, how she became an author, what is like to be an author, and some tips to aspiring authors.

[Event] My Experience at San Diego Comic Con 2016 / Saturday, July 23.

On Saturday July 23 I had the chance to attend the biggest pop culture convention in the United States, Comic con at San Diego convention center. I was super excited because the only time I attended before was in 2008, and the following years I couldn’t get a ticket until this year! The first time I attended I was looking for anime related stuff, but this year I looked for books related stuff. I made my schedule with the signings I wanted to attend, fewer that the ones I actually got.

            When I entered the exhibit hall the first thing I did was to go to the Fierce Reads booth for the signing of Marissa Meyer at 9:45 am. Few minutes before it started, the staff made us line up, I was the fourth person and we went with her in pairs. Marissa Meyer was super kind, she signed all my books of The Lunar Chronicles, the staff took me a pic with her, and she gave me a signed poster and sampler of Wiresand Nerve. Because I said I was from Mexico and I brought all my books, they told the staff to give me extra bookmarks because I was a “big fan”. I was afraid she wouldn’t sign all my books; I had read on internet that sometimes there is a limit of one or two books per person.
