¡Hola! Hoy estoy reseñando un libro que realmente me entusiasmada leer, Rebel Genius por Michael Dante DiMartino. El autor es el co-creador de Avatar, la Leyenda de Aang y la Leyenda de Korra. Me encantan ambos shows, así que estaba realmente interesada en ver qué tipo de historia sería.

La historia tiene lugar en un mundo inspirado en el Renacimiento donde hay poder en el arte,

en todas las formas de arte, y sigue a Giacomo, un artista de doce años que dibuja (otros cantan, tocan música, esculpen, etc.). En este mundo, el arte es poderoso, peligroso y fuera de la ley. Cada artista posee un Genius, una criatura parecida a un pájaro que es la encarnación viva del espíritu creativo de un artista. Aquellos que sean atrapados con uno, enfrentan un castigo similar a la muerte, así que cuando Giacomo descubre que tiene un Genius, sabe que tiene un problema serio.

Afortunadamente, encuentra seguridad en un estudio secreto donde artistas jóvenes y sus Genius se entrenan en geometría sagrada para canalizar sus energías creativas como armas. Pero cuando un artista asesino persigue las tres Herramientas Sagradas, objetos que le permitirían destruir el mundo y todos los que se cruzan en su camino, Giacomo y sus amigos deben arriesgar sus vidas para detenerlo.

Realmente, realmente esperaba amar este libro, e intenté amarlo, pero simplemente no funcionó para mí, o no era lo que esperaba.

Hello! Today I’m reviewing a book I was really excited about, Rebel Genius by Michael Dante DiMartino. The author is the co-creator of Avatar, the Legend of Aang and the Legend of Korra, I love both shows, so I was really interested in seeing what kind of story this would be.

The story takes place in a Renaissance inspired world where there is power in art, all forms of art

A Genius projecting sacred geometry.

, and it follows twelve-year-old Giacomo, an artist that draws (others sing, play music, sculpt, etc). In this world art is powerful, dangerous, and outlawed. Every artist possesses a Genius, a birdlike creature that is the living embodiment of an artist's creative spirit. Those caught with one face a punishment akin to death, so when Giacomo discovers he has a Genius, he knows he's in serious trouble.

Luckily, he finds safety in a secret studio where young artists and their Geniuses train in sacred geometry to channel their creative energies as weapons. But when a murderous artist goes after the three Sacred Tools--objects that would allow him to destroy the world and everyone in his path--Giacomo and his friends must risk their lives to stop him.

I really, really expected to love this book, and I tried to love it, but it just didn’t work for me, or it wasn’t what I was expecting.

Evento: Mi experiencia en San Diego Comic Con 2017 / Domingo 23 de Julio

¡Hola! ha pasado un rato desde mi última entrada, esta vez les hablaré sobre mi experiencia en San Diego Comic Con este año.

Este año sólo alcance boleto para un día, domingo, el último día de la convención donde todo
está más barato, pero también está todo escogido y hay menos firmas que los otros días. Con mucha antelación preparé un presupuesto e hice una lista de los libros que compraría y las firmas que quería conseguir.

No asistí a ningún panel porque, aunque son interesantes, al ser el último día de la convención y el único que fui, quería pasar  el día explorando el Exhibit Hall y el domingo la convención termina más temprano que los demás días.

Llegué exactamente a las 9:00 am, cuando estaban abriendo las puertas, así que entré y subí a la zona de autógrafos por la bolsa de la convención y los libros que dan con el mapa del evento y horarios. Después fui al Coat Check a dejar una mochila de llantas que llevé y la dejé con unos libros que ocuparía rato después, de ahí partí a mi aventura en el exhibit hall.

Hi! It’s been a while since my last post, this time I’ll talk about my experience at comic con this year.

 I only attended one day, Sunday, the last day when everything is cheaper but there are less signings and the con ends earlier. Several days before the con, I made a budget and listed the book related events I wanted to attend.

I did not attend any panels because as I only had one day to enjoy the con, I wanted to explore the exhibit hall as much as possible, but I would attend some post-panel signings.  

I arrived exactly at 9:00 am and picked up my con bag, left a backpack with wells in the coat check with some books inside, and started my adventure in the exhibit hall.

The first signing I had planned was Sarah Khun, author of Heroine Complex. The signing would be held at the exhibit hall from 10:30 am to 11:30 am. When the time arrived I got lost and couldn’t find the booth, when I finally did I noticed they were only selling a special box that contained the second book, and other bookish things, but the price was $60, so I went to a bookstore booth named Mysterious Galaxy to buy the book, but turned out Mysterious Galaxy had signed copies of the book, all the copies they had were signed so I thought I could postpone buying it to buy another book and buy it signed later in their store.

The second signing I planned to attend to was Pierce Brown’s (Red Rising trilogy), that would be held at Del Rey booth from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. It was a ticketed event, first come first serve. I got a ticket and waited in line for half an hour but the line didn’t move, I only moved 2 people, so I left because other signing was approaching.
