I watched the anime adaptation of this manga long ago, but even though I know a lot of people who watched and liked it, they never made a second season, that’s why I decided to start reading the manga, I wanted to know how things ended.

Ouran High School Host Club starts when a girl named Haruhi Fujioka enters as a scholarship
Haruhi dropping the vase.
student at exclusive Ouran High School, on her first day she will find a mysterious “music room” that works as a host club. In the host club she meets six super rich and handsome boys who mistake her with a boy because of her looks… then she accidentally breaks an $80,000 vase that belongs to the club. Haruhi will have to work as a host to pay back the vase… and that’s where everything starts, she will live interesting experiences as part of the host club, good and bad ones. The other members will have to protect Haruhi’s secret when they discover she is a girl, this to avoid anyone else of knowing and to keep letting her being part of the host club.

I love this anime and manga, mostly because even though it’s a shoujo manga it’s more comedy than romance. The main point in the story is not the romance, but the fact that Haruhi cross dresses and a lot of funny stuff happens because of that.

I really like the main characters, they are super funny and have a good relationship with each other, and also, during the manga we get to know everyone’s story to understand them better. Everyone has different traits, stories, and personalities, even the secondary characters are interesting, each character is unique.
From left to right: Haruhi, Tamaki, Kyoya, Hikaru? Kaoru?, Honey, Mori.

This is not the typical story where the girl wants to be noticed by the senpai, in this one, the senpai wants to be noticed by the protagonist. Haruhi is an interesting and different main character, she doesn’t thinks in love, she has a goal that is more than getting a boyfriend: she knows she wants to be a lawyer like her mom. She is intelligent, kinda clueless when it comes to other people’s feelings, and a really hard working girl. I like her because she seems like a more real or relatable girl in comparison with other shoujo protagonists that never have a plan when they graduate high school… or at least I think so xD

Despite being more comedy than romance in the beginning, in the second half of the story things get more serious because everyone starts to acknowledge their romantic feelings towards Haruhi, and also because we get some drama because of the backstories of everyone. Even though they are rich, they have their own problems, responsibilities and obligations, and some of the club members would be lonely without the club.

It’s almost in the end when Haruhi develops romantic feelings for a club member, I won’t tell you who, but if you watched the anime you can guess who I’m referring to. She doesn’t know how to act, and also the reactions of the other boys that had feelings for her are interesting.

If you watched the anime, you totally should read the manga, and if you are looking for a funny, non-cheesy read, I highly recommend this one, it’s cute, funny, has a great character development and makes you read nonstop because it has a little of everything: cross dress, comedy, slice of life, romance, drama, school life, and harem. You all have to read it, I highly recommend it.

Have you read it or watched the anime? Let me know your opinion in the comments :D
